Imagine being labeled America’s worst mother just because you made the conscious decision to allow your child to experience some independence. If you haven’t heard Lenore Skenazy’s story or read her book Free Range Kids, today’s episode is a great introduction to the Free Range Children and Grow Wild movements.

Lenore Skenazy is “America’s Worst Mom.” (Google it!)
The New York City columnist-turned-reality TV show host got that title after letting her 9-year-old son take the subway, alone. In response to the enormous media blowback, she founded the book and blog, “Free-Range Kids,” which launched the anti-helicopter parenting movement.
Her feisty belief that our kids are safer and smarter than our culture gives them credit for has landed her on many talk shows.
She has lectured internationally, from Microsoft Headquarters to DreamWorks to the Bulgarian Happiness Festival (a real thing!), and she has written for everyone from The Wall Street Journal to Mad Magazine. And she’s a graduate of Yale.
